Obama Wants Control Over The Internet

Posted on Friday 28 August 2009 at 12:09 pm

Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.

They’re not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773 (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency.

The new version would allow the president to “declare a cybersecurity emergency” relating to “non-governmental” computer networks and do what’s necessary to respond to the threat. Other sections of the proposal include a federal certification program for “cybersecurity professionals,” and a requirement that certain computer systems and networks in the private sector be managed by people who have been awarded that license.

“I think the redraft, while improved, remains troubling due to its vagueness,” said Larry Clinton, president of the Internet Security Alliance, which counts representatives of Verizon, Verisign, Nortel, and Carnegie Mellon University on its board. “It is unclear what authority Sen. Rockefeller thinks is necessary over the private sector. Unless this is clarified, we cannot properly analyze, let alone support the bill.”

Health Care Bill and the IRS

Posted on Thursday 27 August 2009 at 1:06 pm

In the Health Care bill Section 431(a) of the bill says that the IRS must divulge taxpayer identity information, including the filing status, the modified adjusted gross income, the number of dependents, and “other information as is prescribed by” regulation. That information will be provided to the new Health Choices Commissioner and state health programs and used to determine who qualifies for “affordability credits.”

Big brother Kennedy and Big brother Obama will invade your privacy.  How will Obama spin (lie about) this? Rationing - here we come.

Paid Supporters

Family Research Council reports that:

Proving that the President “can buy me love,” the blog of the Los Angeles Times has uncovered a web ad that shows how desperate the Left is for support. The Fund for the Public Interest is actually offering to pay “volunteers” to support the President’s takeover. “Work to pass Obama’s health care plan and get paid to do it! $10-15 hr!” The ad promises anywhere from $400-$600 a week to people who agree to rally on the administration’s behalf, presumably at townhall meetings. Maybe the slogan should be “Work for change–and make some too!” Not everyone has pure motives, but it’s somewhat ironic that the Left blames conservatives for “manufacturing” anger when their groups are hiring it!

Anybody paying you to show up?  Nope! :-D

Canadian Health Care System Is Imploding

Overhauling health-care system tops agenda at annual meeting of Canada’s doctors

SASKATOON — The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association says this country’s health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it.

Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made.

“We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize,” Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

“We know that there must be change,” she said. “We’re all running flat out, we’re all just trying to stay ahead of the immediate day-to-day demands.”

A Qualified Hispanic

A Qualified Hispanic

Born in Honduras. A broken home. Came to the US at age 17. Had very limited English and mother spoke no English. Graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in four years from Columbia University. Harvard Law School and served as the editor of the Harvard Law Review. Juris Doctorate magna cum laude. Clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. Practiced law in New York, served as assistant U.S. attorney and joined the Justice Department as an assistant to the solicitor general under the Clinton administration. Wife died from accidental overdose of alcohol and sleeping pills after a miscarriage. Great record and overcame professional and personal obstacles and adversity. Hailed by several Democratic senators as “the gold standard by which judicial candidates should be judged.”

Sonia Sotomayor?? Nope, Manuel Estrada. When nominated for the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia. The Democrats put up a seven-month filibuster to deny a full Senate confirmation vote. Manuel gave up and withdrew from consideration.

Senator Kennedy opined, ”This should serve as a wake-up call to the White House that it cannot simply expect the Senate to rubber-stamp judicial nominees.”

Had he been confirmed in 2003, Manuel Estrada could have been the first Hispanic on the Supreme Court. Complete with “gold standard” qualifications and a great story of overcoming adversity.

So much for the Democratic Party being the party of the minorities and the little guy. So much for an unbiased media. Instead, we get a lifetime appointment of a much less qualified Supreme.

Health Care - Abortion Covered?

Posted on Thursday 13 August 2009 at 8:21 pm

QUESTION: “[This is a ] health care plan that is covering abortion, which we know that over 90% of abortions are purely elective, not medically necessary. Why is this being covered when abortion is clearly not health care?” (Applause).
REP. LOFGREN: “[This is a] basic benefit plan developed by, um, health professionals… Abortion will be covered as a benefit by one or more of the health care plans available to Americans, and I think it should be.”
